These are the products I’ve used non-stop over the last nine months – my pregnancy skincare essentials.
As I get closer to the end of the third trimester (eek!), I’ve planned a few posts around the things I’ve loved using during this pregnancy.
First up, skincare!
Choosing what skincare to use during pregnancy can be a minefield. If you’re unsure, I’d recommend taking a look at the queen of skincare, Caroline Hirons’ excellent blog for some pointers, including this video.
My skin has never been perfect, but I finally know what works for me and what doesn’t. So, over the last nine months I’ve stuck to my usual products and routine, though avoiding retinols or strong acids.
Also **disclaimer** this post features a heck of a lot of Clarins products – but sadly it’s not sponsored by the brand (but please do get in touch if we can work together in the future ;-)) I just love their products!
My pregnancy skincare essentials
Pregnancy acne struck again in the first trimester, which frankly wasn’t pleasant. I felt nauseous constantly and generally out of sorts and getting constant outbreaks wasn’t great for the ol’ mood.
During this time, I relied heavily on Clarins Rebalancing Clay Mask. Doing a mask at least once or twice a week, tended to reduce the redness, and it was also nice to spend a few minutes ‘relaxing’ once the toddler was in bed!
By the second trimester, the acne calmed down thankfully so my focus shifted to moisturising as I felt dehydrated a lot of the time.
And, Clarins Lotus Face Treatment Oil helped with this. I’ve been really getting into oils recently, with this one in particular becoming a real skincare hero.
I used to think oils would make my spots worse! But actually, using this oil, every few nights, and spending time massaging it in has made a world of difference.
If I’ve been wearing make-up, I will double-cleanse as soon as I get home. Usually, starting with Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm, which smells incredible and melts all the day’s grime off, followed up by a cream or gel cleanser.
And finally, something I never thought would make any difference… Clarins Booster Energy Drops. I usually add a couple of drops to my moisturiser and notice that the drops do perk up my skin, leaving a very subtle glow.
Bodycare essentials over the last nine months
Moving onto the body skincare essentials – I previously loved using Weleda’s Stretch Mark Massage Oil but this time around, I have been addicted to Clarins Body Tonic Oil.
I am onto my fourth bottle! The smell is gorgeous and I love how the luxurious oil sinks into the skin but doesn’t leave me feeling greasy or like an oil slick.
Being pregnant over summer, meant keeping cool in the ridiculous heatwaves we’ve had in London! The Body Shop’s Peppermint Foot Cream – an oldie that I have loved over the years.
It definitely helped keep my feet cool and refreshed, especially when there was just no air. I’m still using the cream to soothe tired and achey feet now.
So there you go, my round-up of the pregnancy skincare essentials I’ve loved! Can you recommend any that you consider a must-have?
